Veterans Benefits for VA Approved Flight School
North Aire is a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)-approved flight school under the Montgomery GI Bill, Vocational Rehabilitation, and the Post 9/11 GI Bill.
The first step to receiving GI Bill benefits is to apply for a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) through www.ebenefits.va.gov. If you are eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill but have not transferred your benefits, you can do so by selecting the “Transfer Post 9/11 educational Benefits” tab and follow the online instructions. The approval process can take several months, so you should apply as soon as soon as possible to attend North-Aire for flight training.
Please contact our Student Services office, at 928-308-5356 for detailed information.
Post 9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33)
The Post 9/11 GI Bill is for veterans who have served after 9/11. Depending on how much time you served/were active after 9/11, the VA will pay up to 100% of your tuition and fees. If your Active Duty was completed after September 10, 2001, the percentage of maximum amount payable is as follows.
- At least 36 months: 100%
- 18 months to 24 months: 70%
- 12 months to 18 months: 60%
- 6 months to 12 months: 50%
- 90 days to 6 months: 40%
Flight schools are not approved for the Post 9/11 GI Bill on their own. North-Aire Aviation has a partnership with Yavapai Community College (YCC). YCC has a two-year Professional Airplane Pilot Flight Program. North-Aire does the flight training part of that degree program for YCC. This means your flight fees are charged through YCC and are eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill.
All of your VA and school enrollment will be done through YCC. You’ll come to North-Aire Aviation for your flights. Your flight training is done on an individual basis with your flight instructor. Every person flies the number of hours required to reach proficiency for the certificate or rating they’re working on. The Post 9/11 covers all cost from Private Pilot through Certified Flight Instructor unlike previous versions of the GI Bill that required veterans to cover the cost of the initial Private Pilot certificate.
The Post 9/11 GI Bill also has a living stipend, as well as an annual allowance for books and supplies.
You can learn more about your Post 9/11 GI bill benefits at www.gibill.va.gov. Contact North-Aire’s Student Services Manager, at (928) 445-8320 for more information.
Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30/1606/1607)
If you have the “old” Montgomery GI Bill, you will come directly to North-Aire Aviation.
This GI Bill reimburses you 60% (depending on your chapter of eligibility) of you eligible training costs after your Private Pilot Certificate. You will pay for your Private Pilot Certificate on your own. The VA will reimburse you a percentage of the eligible costs for your instrument, commercial and CFI training.
You must contact North-Aire Aviation prior to starting any training if you are planning to use your Montgomery GI Bill. All training must be done following the FAA Part 141 syllabus and you must have a current second class medical prior to enrolling in any VA-eligible course or you will not receive reimbursement for your training.
